The character of Lisa has two issues when her behavior is observed in a social setting and with her interaction with her boss. The first assessment that can be made is that she has extreme co-dependency issues and the second that she has obsessive compulsive disorder.

In assessing the co-dependency issue; consider this definition of codependency:

Codependency is a valid descriptive term that is extremely useful in describing certain behaviorally and emotionally disordered people. There is insufficient justification, however, for describing it as a disease process caused by deficiencies in brain chemistry. Moreover, the presence of compulsive behaviors should not be included as a defining characteristic of codependency, although these conditions often go hand in hand. Instead, the term codependency is best defined in terms of low self-esteem and certain types of disordered interpersonal relationships that result from being raised in a dysfunctional family. In assessing the compulsive behavioral aspect; the prior statement states clearly that compulsive behaviors often work in tandem with co-dependency issues. One must look at Lisa’s childhood and her development which without knowing many details is problematic. However, we can postulate that her behavior in the movie is out of sync with Freud’s theory of the Id, Ego, and superego.
