This narrative paper provides you with the opportunity to share your philosophy of nursing practice. Based on your worldview and personal philosophy, develop a framework that describes your philosophy of nursing. Later in the program, you will “tweak” this paper and include it in your Graduate Portfolio (personal philosophy of practice is required in the portfolio that is required at the completion of the program and detailed in the Graduate Student Handbook).
Guidelines and Grading Criteria
NOTE: Standard requirement for all papers in the MSN program is current APA format. If you include references, cite them in the body and on the reference page according to current APA guidelines.
Basic Format
1. A title page is required that includes the student’s name, title of assignment, course name and number, and date.
2. Paper is to be typed, double-spaced, 12-pt. font (Times New Roman preferred), and number each page in the upper right hand corner.
3. The minimum length must be 4 pages and maximum must be 7 pages, excluding the title and reference pages.
4. References are not required unless you refer to information that warrants documentation (this paper is a personal narrative that is based on your own thoughts, reflections, values, and beliefs related to nursing practice; some students do cite other references, i.e., a model of practice they follow, references to Scripture, etc.).
This paper is to be written in first person and in narrative form. Headings (subheadings) are recommended but not required; be sure to follow current APA guidelines to properly format headings if they are used. Incorporate content stated in the grading rubric into your paper (you may include additional content related to your personal philosophy—just be sure to include the required content).
The Personal Philosophy Paper is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 2.
