You have been working in a diagnostic imaging department of a medium sized hospital for several years. Over the past several months, you have noticed that one of your co-workers has developed the following work behaviors: decreased productivity, increased absenteeism, diminished physical appearance, runny nose, head-aches, weight-loss, and frequent absences while at work (i.e. going to the restroom more often than usual). You also caught two patient identification errors he made last month and several computer entry mistakes in the last several days. You are beginning to suspect that this person may have a drug problem. What are the ethical issues for consideration in confronting this issue? Are there any legal issues?
