Vulnerable Population OverviewThe homeless population in New Haven, Connecticut aggregate around the town green, occupying park and bus benches, standing on street corners, or lying on the grass. The homeless shelter is located around the corner from the green; many people wait in line to secure a place to sleep when doors open at 7:00PM. The shelter can only sleep 30; most people in line will not have a warm place to sleep, leaving them to brave the elements throughout the night. Many homeless people are underdressed for New England winter weather, wearing worn out sneakers and thin jackets, lacking gloves and hats.
