A Collaborative language systems’ model is a post-modern approach to therapy focused on the process of change and the evaluation of meaning through conversation. For example, the Collaborative language system is constructed through conversation among people (Anderson, 1995). In other words, what a person perceives as real is a result of the dominant beliefs of individuals and society. The view is held that while language is useful in allowing individuals to share information, language can also be complex and problematic.
In comparison, the theory of Cognitive Behavior theories (CBT) is based on an integrative approach to counseling using a combination of behavioral and cognitive approaches. The therapy is concentrated on a wide range of mental processes including thoughts, perception, performance, intellectual ability, and personality. For instance, there are a number of therapeutic interventions that encompass this model such as Stress Inoculation that utilizes an amalgamated form of counseling techniques that include: interviews, questionnaires, and self-monitoring (Meichenbaum, 1974 as cited in Archer & McCarthy, 2007).
