The factors that exacerbate the effects of toxic exposures on populations with low Socioeconomic Status are the fact that these areas are more prone to have plants that release toxins built near their communities, which increases the probability that contamination will leak into their ground water. In addition, these populations are more likely to live in older buildings where lead is still present despite being banned from buildings for many decades in newer model buildings.
