The right to“the pursuit of happiness” stated in the Declaration of Independence gives a human being the right to go after whatever makes them happy, however, it does not guarantee one happiness, it just simply allows the person the opportunity to go after what can make them achieve happiness.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs help us to understand what motivates people to do things, he believes that individuals desire more than just basic needs i.e. food , shelter, water, and air to just be sustainable in life (Schultz and Schultz, 2013). Self-actualization is at the top ofMaslow’s pyramid of needs followed by esteem needs, social needs, and safety needs. In Maslow’s perspective these needs were what fit the equation to keep them mentally healthy.

Looking at this pyramid our basic needs are essentially the map we need to be categorized as biologically alive. Our safety needs are also from a biological stance which protects us from the components as well as psychological needs, such as sanctuary, order, law, limitations and mental stability (Shultz and Schultz, 2013). Social needs are another form of mental. There is a need to belong, being part of a group or clique or in a relationship having friends and being loved.

Maslow’s esteem needs are things that we all want and have a plan to accomplish whether it is of a social status and dominance. Finally, we come to the last part of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and it is self-actualization. Although many do not achieve this need they tend to realize their potential, personal fulfillment and seek to establish personal growth.
