Culturally Relevant Strategies

Within the context of correctional institutions, the public and communities as a whole tend to ignore the issue, as it does not personally affect them. That is, until the moment when the possibility of a halfway home (HWH) for recently released convicts is purposed to a local neighborhood.

The dramatic and almost terrifying turn of individual’s emotions is astonishing; the aspect of the ‘safe neighborhood’ possibly being overrun with the likes of criminals, turn even the most docile house-wives hostel. This essay will examine the cultural and emotional perspectives of criminality as they relate to the personal ambitions of the author.

Since my undergraduate degree, my goals and objectives have been specifically targeted to the Unites States correctional institutions, specifically young males. The title is typically called Correctional Counselor, but does have some variations depending on the state. This position has job characteristics to include working with inmates, their family members, employees, and the community to help strive for mental health as well as evaluating, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment planning[Cor15].

Within the correctional field, there is a flurry of cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity, which can often be difficult to manage within such a tightly packed area. Due to its high density of diversity and the constant struggle that is presented within correctional institutions, this environment will cause for constant knowledge attainment; there is no one group I need to learn more of than another in this situation.
