In the life of any student’s school serves as the second environment which contributes a very great role towards the student growth after home. Every new year students join Hayward Unified School District from different backgrounds, due to the rising numbers of the students joining the school with chronic and mental health conditions which need to be managed during the school day, it has led to the requirement of a school nurse who is the health care representative in the school (Buswell & Lechtenberg, 2016). School nurse plays a role which is very critical within the school health matters by attending to the major health problems faced by the students. As a matter of fact, there is a major relationship which exists between health and learning, therefore this makes it essential for the nurse to be available within the school physically. Today, students undergo many challenges such as financial contraints, family crises, violence, immigration, and homelessness hence this challenges affect both their physical and mental health needs. Therefore, understanding of the school nurse’s role is essential to make sure that these challenges are addressed.
The school nurse determines the overall system of care and comes up with a plan for ensuring that health requirements of the student are satisfied. As a specialist in health care within the school fraternity his or her duties include development of plans for responding to emergencies and disasters, confidential documentation and communication of student health information to the parties involved (Buswell & Lechtenberg, 2016).
