Attachment theory is an important topic in life span and child development fields. The theory was proposed by a british psychiatrist, John Bowlby in 20th century. He proposed that infants have an inborn biological need for close contact with their mothers or other main care giver, whereby a normal bonding develops within the first six months of child birth, through the care giver’s responsiveness to the child’s needs and deprivation during this critical period will result in having adverse effects on later psychological and emotional developments of the growing child.
