The client is a 8 year old African American male. Client’s mother reports the client as hy-peractive and oppositional with directions. The client speaks with a loud and aggressive voice. Client was recently partially hospitalized and was sent to outpatient therapy. The client currently lives with his two year old brother, maternal grandparents, grandmother, and mother.
The client is preliminary diagnosed with Opposition Defiant Disorder 313.81/F91.3. The client suffers from a pattern of angry/irritable moods, argumentative/defiant behaviors, and or vindictiveness (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The client’s disturbance in behavior is associated with distress in his immediate social context (e.g. family and peer groups) and it im-pacts him negatively on social, educational or other important areas of functioning (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
This section will include but not be limited to the Assessment, Diagnosis, Treatment Planning, and the Evaluation of the Impact of Social Systems for this case study. This will preliminary target the diagnosis and treatment planning for the hypothetical client.
Assessment MethodsTypically, the initial steps many parents will do is to contact the child’s primary care physician for an evaluation. This evaluation will consist of a review of the child’s medical his-tory and by performing a physical examination. During this evaluation the primary care physi-cian will look for physical or other mental health issues that may cause problems with the client’sbehavior.
If the primary care physician is unable to find a physical cause for the client’s symp-toms then he or she will refer the child to a mental healt……………..
