There is an example of a reflection framework on the assessment page on Blackboard (the four Rs), but you can use alternate evidence based reflection frameworks if you prefer (referenced, from the literature).
The reflection needs to be supported by referenced literature. It is not just about what you think or feel as it is an academic paper describing your reflection on nursing practice. For example – you might write something such as “I
developed a rapport with the patient John (pseudonym) by asking questions face to face about John’s life and family to establish a pattern of therapeutic communication. According to Smith (2014) nurses use therapeutic communication to provide support and information and act as an advocate for their patients thus improving patient outcomes.” Or “When assessing Tom’s (age 1 year) cardiovascular status I used a stethoscope to auscultate his heart beat and ascertain his heart rate as this is the most accurate method of assessment in infants (Hockenberry and
Wilson, 200……..etc). However Tom was very unsettled and crying during the examination and on reflection I could have utilised distraction therapy, such as bubbles or toys, to reduce Tom’s distress and facilitate assessment
(Josh et al, 2015). “
