Michael J. Fox was born in 1961 (Schleier, 2000). His battle with Parkinson’s began at the age of 29 in 1991 with a twitch in his pinkie while filming the comedy Doc Hollywood. Six months after the twitch began, a doctor in New York delivered the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. Fox dealt with his condition by drinking heavily. In his memoir “Lucky Man” he states: “I craved alcohol as a direct response to the need I felt to escape my situation” (as cited by Dagostino, 2008). In 1992, Fox became sober but continued to keep quiet about his condition (Dagostino, 2008).
