Social Justice in Practice
In the practice of social psychology, ameliorative practices can be transformative so that psychological principles can be utilised to advocate for as well as achieve social justice. In the work of Maloof, Ross-Sheriff & Asani (2003), they presented a number of cases that showcased issues encountered by practitioners in providing counseling services for American Muslims. The work is focused on this particular population to serve as a guide. I have selected the following case to work on as a way of exploring how best a practitioner can utilize his or her position to help achieve social justice in practice.
Case Summary
In Chapter 5, the authors explore the issue with regards to safety and security. In this particular case, a newly come Afghan Immigrant family has found public housing in a low-rent neighborhood in the US. While they found housing, the family and its members found that they were viewed with suspicion and felt unwelcome. They were harassed by having rocks thrown at their home.
