The company that I have selected for this project is Lawn America. Lawn America is a small company that specializes in the treatment of lawns using fertilizer and other chemicals to keep customer’s lawns healthy and green. The company has been very successful but has not engaged their customers or their service technicians in technology that would better streamline the process. For instance, there is no way to warn a customer other than a phone call that someone is coming to their house. There should be a way to notify a customer via email or text message when their appointment is approaching. There is also a lack of any sort of online scheduling mechanism. While needed that particular functionality is beyond the scope of this particular project which is focused primarily on the automation of some of the core task that the company performs. Some of the customer’s pay in advance for yearly service while most pay on a monthly basis and typically elect to have additional services performed at various points throughout the year. The additional products are an extra profit center for the company and in some cases technicians don’t always complete the service due to the work order not having the appropriate details. Work orders are created by hand and should be completed using an automated process that includes all appropriate work order items. The cost of the project should be recovered in the first year with missed work now being identified.
