Sociological Reflection: Gaycation USA
The series Gaycation
explores LGBTQ cultures around the world and the contradictions,
struggles and ambiguity often involved. In this episode, the hosts go on
a road trip from Iowa to New York City, during which they explore both
the progress and setbacks of the LGBTQ movement in the United States.
Instructions: After watching the episode (link below), you will answer the following questions in essay format, using APA formatting. Your
paper should include in-text citations, a cover page and reference page
and should be a minimum of 3 pages double spaced (body of your paper).
You should use specific examples from the episode to highlight your
arguments along with sociological theory/concepts that we have discussed
in class. You should also use at least 3 outside sources to augment
your analysis (3 sources other than your book). Please remember that
this assignment is designed for you to explore an arena of our social
world that you may not be too familiar with. This is not designed to
change your beliefs, values or to promote any agenda.The historical and
contemporary patterns of human sexuality and diversity are important
dimensions of minority cultures and identities. The distinctiveness and
interrelatedness of sexual identities, gender, religion, politics and
relationships are important to examine in our attempt to expand our
knowledge about our contemporary world and our future.
