One was in Jiangmen Social Welfare Institution in China, one was in Pleasant Manor Care Center, and the last one was in United Youth Action in the United States. Jiangmen Social Welfare Institution is a not-for-profit institution for providing service for the children and the elderly. I chose to do the service learning in Jiangmen Social Welfare Institution because Jiangmen is my hometown. I have lived in Jiangmen for over 20 years since I was born. Jiangmen nurtured me, and I thought it was time for me to do something for it. In the year of 2011, Jiangmen strived for creating a cultured city. Therefore, Jiangmen Social Welfare Institution determined to refresh the old building and buy some new equipment for the children and the elderly. Last summer, I chose to serve in the children’s department. The children there were mostly abandoned by their parents because they had disabilities or were girls. In order to refresh the old building, I helped the staff with the children repaint the walls on the first day. The children were active. Even though some of them had disabilities, they were willing to help me pass the paints and the brushes. They were helpful. On the second day, we utilized our imaginations to draw the pictures on the wall. The pictures were full of fun, and somewhat reflected the emotions of the children.
