For all of the ink spilled about the high-tech economy, the majority of American mothers are still primarily engaged in the oldest economy in the world: the household. Most people seriously underestimate how much of their lives contem porary American women spend on their children. There is even evidence that today’s mothers are taking the tasks of reproduction more seriously than any previous generation.
