Knowledge of and association with these bodies are part of professional identity.Description: Students will visit the following websites:o American Counseling Association (ACA) (www.counseling.org) o American School Counselor Association(ASCA)(www.schoolcounselor.org)o Mental Health Counselor Association (AMHCA)(www.amhca.org)o Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related EducationalPrograms (CACREP)(www.cacrep.org)o National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)(www.nbcc.org)(Check for information regarding your own state) o State Dept of Educationhttp://www2.ed.gov/about/contacts/state/index.html?src=lnAfter careful review of the information presented in these websites, students will write a brief but comprehensive paper (it may be outline form) summarizing the roles and functions, including membership benefits, where appropriate, of each of these organizations/divisions. In addition, students will join either ACA, ASCA, or AMHCA as a “student” and acquire professional liability insurance through this organization. This insurance is needed for any practice of counseling. Documentation of membership and insurance are required for successful completion of the course. Students will actively participate in class discussion related to their findings and reactions.
