Kirschenbaum and Jourdan (2005) cite among the similarities of the person-centered approach as posited by Rogers is the focus on empathetic understanding of a concept “that involves, warmth, acceptance and positive regard” (p. 42), Rogerian concept of person-centeredness was based on some core conditions that included: (a) unconditional positive regard, (b) empathetic understanding, and (c) congruence. According to Rogers (1980)when therapists focused on these core conditions in providing therapeutic care, personality change and growth was the end result .According to Kirschenbaum and Jourdan, other studies have confirmed the efficacy of these conditions for effective counseling. Across studies there were 66 statistically significant correlations between positive outcomes and the core conditions (Traux & Mitchell, 1971 as cited in Kirschenbaum & Jourdan, p. 41). On the other hand, according to Kirschenbaum and Jourdan, few researchers utilize Roger’s concept of congruence.
