Become knowledgeable about issues- I try to stay abreast on current issues through reading nursing journals and following politically based nursing articles online. Both sources have offered me valuable information about current nursing policies and trends.  Join Influential groups– I am part of the ANA (American Nurses Association).“The “ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and lobbying Congress and the regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public” (American Journal of Nursing, 2006). Through groups such as the ANA, nurses can make an impact on political processes. Through this groups meetings, journals, and website nurses can stay up to date on current events in nursing.  Make campaign donations– Through the ANA and my own research I have and will continue to make campaign donations to campaigns that support my position in nursing. Making donations to campaigns allows me a way to support individuals or groups who are reaching the public and public officials on a large scale.
