Amundson (2003) suggests that life purpose is the result of matching personal capabilities and interests (“what is inside of oneself”) with external needs (“what is outside of oneself”). The electricity metaphor is somewhat helpful in linking energy flow and force to the direction and sense of purpose in ones life.
