Maslow’s hierarchy of needs explains that individuals need the following items in this order:
1) Physiological (breathing, food, water, etc.)
2) Safety (security of body, resources, family, etc.)
3) Love/Belonging (friendship/family/intimacy)
4) Esteem (self-esteem, confidence, etc.)
