Systematic desensitization is the process where by a client is exposed to a feared stimuli in graded steps.
This behaviorist approach works on the premise that when a person comes into contact with a feared stimuli their anxiety will increase (this has physical manifestations such as increased heart rate, sweating and becoming hot).
