Method of loci:

The act of imagining putting objects and items to remember in various places that are familiar to oneself. For example, you’re trying to remember what to get at the grocery store. You can put items along the route from home to work. Bread in the elevator, cheese in the lobby, butter at the side of the road, milk by the statue, etc.

In the case of eye-witnesses, this might be helpful in remembering particular objects at the scene by placing these objects to be remembered into a familiar, remembered locus.
