Plato’s dialog titled Euthyphro documents a debate between Socrates and Euthyphro about true meaning of holiness. This debate took place outside of the court of Athens where Euthyphro came to prosecute his father for having unintentionally killed a person. In there he got involved in a debate with Socrates in defining what is “HOLY”. In this paper I will explain how the concept of holiness develops in this dialog and why it takes a prominent position in this conversation. Euthyphro provided three definitions to Socrates to define holiness and in this paper I will present those three definitions and how Socrates responded and denied each of Euthyphro’s definitions. I will formulate my own argument as to what I think Socrates’s goal is in this dialog. I will try to provide an appropriate definition of piety from my side while also creating a Socratic response of my definition. Taking on the role of Socrates and I will also try to response to my arguments, to my own definition as I think he would.
