Principle A: Beneficence and Nonmaleficence
This principle basically states that above all, psychologists will avoid harming those they work with in any way. It also states that psychologists will never misuse their influence and will be aware of anything that might influence their ability to work with their clients, such as outside influences or their own mental or physical health. In short, the priority is to do no harm or misuse the influence you have as a psychologist.
Principle B: Fidelity and Responsibility
This one basically states that psychologists are obligated to be personally responsible for their own actions and trustworthiness, but it also states that psychologists are also obligated to ensure the responsibility and ethics of the profession in general. It also states that a psychologist should make an effort to donate some of their time and skill for the benefit of others.
Principle C: Integrity
This one states that psychologists are honest, responsible, and accurate in their teaching and practice, that they do not make promises they can’t keep or make statements misleading people, and that if for some reason they feel some form of dishonesty is necessary and can be ethically justified, they make sure they fully understand the possible ramifications of this decision.
