I assume you know (from class) the nature of the Milgram study. Burger is a continuation of that same line of research.
Milgram study (1963-1965) ? famous study where the “teacher” gave (fake) shocks to the learner. Questions were answered by the learner, and the teacher was asked to give a “punishment shock” for each wrong one. The point is to study obedience — how far would these people go in giving shocks?
Only the learner was in on it (the shocks were not real, the teacher only thought they were). The learner was given the wrong answer, and he got a shock from the ?teacher? for each one.
This was shown that certain authority figures can have the ?teacher? obey even things they did not want to do ? like hurt people for giving the wrong answer (simple word paring, the test itself is insignificant).
Burger tried to replicate the original Milgram study.
