Examples of these agents being used as bioterrorism are when there were two epidemics of smallpox in Europe during the 1970s and by an accidental release of aerosolized anthrax from Russian bioweapons facility in 1979. The number of countries engaged in biological weapons experimentation has grown form 4 in the 1960s to 11 in the 1990s. A recent review of the problems posed by biological terrorism and warfare has been published and stated that biological terrorism is more than ever before to be more threatening then either explosives or chemicals.
